In 1964 I became a registered apprentice to the International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers Local Union 353. I was very fortunate to have a
great learning and working relationship with Bennett and Wright Electrical
Contractors. Four years later, after successfully completing my apprenticeship
with them, I received the Inter-provincial seal on my Certificate of Qualification
(C of Q).

Throughout my 44-year membership with Local 353 I regularly attended monthly
union meetings. I was proud to serve as Shop Steward on several projects
and jobsites. I also took an active role in the Sports Committee and competed
in many IBEW bowling tournaments.
In 1993 I became involved with the Technical Education Committee and subsequently
launched a career as an instructor. I taught 10 years in both full-time
day programs and night school courses at 353's Training Centre.
My experience in the electrical field includes work as an electrician,
serviceman, maintenance person and foreman. I also worked in the office
as a draftsman and project coordinator.
In 1999 I was elected to the office of Treasurer for Local Union 353.
I held
this office for 3 terms and over this
9 year period I also held the position
of Treasurer of L.U. 353's Non-Profit
Corporation for the last 6 years.
After 3 terms in office as Treasurer, I decided
to run for a position on the Executive Board in
the 2008 elections. I was successful in
obtaining a seat on the Board after the June
election. Although I started my Local pension
in November of '08, I am still active on the
Board for the present time.
